Magic Monday!

October 12th, 2009 No comments

We’ve uploaded a new version of the site today. List items (except main Lifelist) can now be numbered. Text can be made bold, italicised and turned into a link.
We’ve done lots of testing of the new features but if you have any difficulty or any questions or if there is anything else you would like to see, then please let us know.

Changes to Piclists

Al’s been working on making Piclists better. It should be much easier to upload pictures now. See what you think. As always, feedback is appreciated.

World of Lists

I noticed this list today on the BBC web site. It tells us a lot about our world really doesn’t it?

New stuff

Al has been programming away as fast as his little fingers can type. Some of the additions that I’ve been whining about for some time are ready to go. We’ve uploaded a new version of our site that includes some new features.

Sometimes when looking at a list I want to comment on a list item but I can’t say Me2! because I haven’t done the thing myself – maybe I just like what the Lifelister to say or I admire their achievement. I’ve often wanted to to congratulate someone when they achieve something on a Todolist or a Bucketlist. Now we can honour list items by awarding Medals. You can give a Medal in the same way you give a Me2!

Some users create really inspirational lists. Now we can award a whole list a Gold Star if we like it. When looking at a list, you will notice the option to award a Gold Star over to the right of a list title, near where you can choose to ‘Favourite’ a list.

You’ll notice there’s lots of new functionality on your home page too. You can now delete Me2!s, Medals, or Gold Stars that you have given. And you now have a record of the awards you have given.

Enjoy the new features and please do let us know if you notice any problems.

The History of the World in Lists

April 6th, 2009 No comments

I’ve always been fascinated by lists. Some lists I’m so much in awe of I don’t even know how to mention them without seeming clumsy and crass. The idea that Schindler’s List (found in Sydney reports the BBC today) even exists, tells us so much about our world. I even feel awkward just typing it’s name, such is the powerful emotion it evokes.

I’m such a Twitt

March 4th, 2009 No comments

Don’t you just hate it when you fail to get the joke?

I’ve been spending some time on Twitter recently. As far as ‘no point to it’ social networks go, it’s the one for me. Of course if I need a social network with a point then there’s no finer place than Lifelists.  I’ve never spent an huge amount of time on Facebook and now it’s become too much of a monster and far too slow for our pathetic ‘broadband’.

I use TweetDeck for Twitter and it just sits on my desktop and updates automatically. I’m used to reading Tweets now. They suit me fine. Little 140 character max. statements usually about what a person is doing, thinking or something they have seen. There’s often a link so if I’m interested enough I can follow it.

Yesterday however, I had to pop in and out of  Facebook to reply to a message. While I was there I noticed a friend’s status update. It said “(Mr X) …says, who’s the nicest bloke in the hospital? The ultra-sound guy”.

I emailed my poor friend straight away. I said…”I saw you mentioned you were in hospital on Facebook…are you OK?”

Luckily, I didn’t have to wait long to get a reply, it said: “Blimey that’s a short attention span.
Context Jane, context – you need to read all of it.”

I was confused. I emailed my friend back telling him not to be so grumpy with me and explaining that I don’t like Facebook because of how slow it is. Three hours later I was still waiting for my friend to tell me what had brought him to the hospital when the word ‘JOKE’ finally entered my consciousness. (I’m sure I don’t need to explain: ultra sound/nice guy).

Ohhhh it made me cringe. I could make lots of excuses about Twitter/Facebook differences but lets’ face it, I’m an idiot.

Al's Valentine's Bread

My lovely Al makes wonderful bread at the weekend. Today he made these heart-shaped Valentine’s buns especially for me. They were delicious covered in butter. He knows the way to my heart!

New page themes

February 11th, 2009 No comments

I’m creating a few new page themes to add to those we already have. I’m working on a nice springtime one and a party related one.  The party one is to go with a new addition coming soon to our Quicklists menu. Any suggestions for other page themes are most welcome. Maybe you’d like me to create a page theme especially for your lists? Let me know and I’ll have a go.

Happy 2009

Let’s hope the year will be a great one for all of us.
We’ve had to change blog software and it’s taken an age to transfer everything. Unfortunately, we can’t transfer the comments and although I could do it manually, I don’t think I will. It would feel too much like ‘faking it’.

New Lifelists

We’ve had a bit of a re-design and added some new functionality to the site. We hope you approve. Any comments you have will be very welcome. We’ve been testing the new features for some time but if you have any problems please let us know.
We’ve added page themes. To choose how your lists are displayed when you and others view them by choosing to edit a list, selecting a page theme for that list and then saving your changes.
Any suggestions for page themes you would like to use?
