I’ve produced a book cover for my friend’s wonderful book. You can read some excerpts on her site. I’m now working on another paper cut on a topic very close to my heart.

My Brazilian Twitter friend @rejaneborges works at Obvious Mag. A great site that features all kinds of interesting stories, often arts and culture related. She was kind enough to feature some of my work. Here’s the story:
I was telling Al about it and he was asking me what it actually said. I speak Spanish but not Portugese and so, wasn’t exactly sure. He was quiet for a while but then started bawling with laughter. He had decided to use Google Chrome’s translator. I had never tried that. I didn’t even know such a thing existed. This is what it said:

I decided to take I Love Mayo on the road and participate in an OpenFair. This one took place at the Traveler’s Friend in Castlebar. I went to a huge amount of effort getting stock together for this and so was disappointed when I arrived to discover that I had a tiny space to fill… half a table, even though I was amongst the first to book my place. Still the OpenFair concept is a good one and taking part is free. It was an interesting exercise and it was great that Al was able to provide a lot of help and some very kind friends called in to support us. There were lots of great little businesses there and it was useful from a networking point of view. That wasn’t why I attended however, and I won’t be doing an Open Fair again. The event wasn’t really marketed, infact, there wasn’t even a proper sign outside. A shame and a missed opportunity for us all.

I’m reducing the price of my two big posters for Christmas. They make great gifts from Ireland, especially as they are easily and cheaply posted in a tube. I’ve reduced the price from 35 to 22 Euro… not bad eh? My other prints are smaller so also easy to post in a board backed envelope. All on my I Love Mayo site or from GarrendennyLane.com if you want to look at a larger range of lovely stuff.

My Ireland Map in it's new frame
I asked my Facebook friends what colour my Ireland paper-cut map should be. Everyone seems to love this duck-egg blue-ish colour. It seems to visit in with many people’s colour schemes today. The printed poster is large, 50 x 70 cm and fits into a ready made IKEA frame like this one. I’m really pleased with it. The photo is a bit blurred but there’s load of lovely detail and, unlike many maps you see these days, even though it’s a paper-cut it’s more geographically correct than most and has all county borders on it if you look closely.

I really enjoyed making my the papercuts for my recent Christmas cards. So much so that I was itching to get hold of my scalpel again. I wanted to really challenge myself this time and I did. I spent a week or so earlier this year, creating a map for a brochure for our local tourist organisation. I love maps, all of those crinkles and so thought it would be fun to combine paper cutting and maps.
It took me a long time to produce this artwork, a few hours a day for a month or so. I’m going to have my artwork scanned and make some posters. I’ve asked my friends on my I Love Mayo Facebook page what colour my prints should be. That reminds me, please ‘like’ my I Love Mayo Facebook page!

Were snowed in for a week, ie. we couldn’t get out of our drive.

Fridge stopped working because it was too cold in the kitchen. Who knew such a thing could happen??
Frozen water pipes and gas regulator. Poor Al spent hours outside with the hairdryer.
We had a lovely quiet Christmas and New Year.

Al went to Vienna for his work Christmas party and brought back some macaroons, sachertorte and a VERY bad cold. What a wonderful gift!
I’ve produced a poster. It’s for sale on my ILoveMayo.com site and on GarrendennyLane.com. It’s large and fits perfectly into an Ikea frame.
I can tell spring is coming. There are buds everywhere, it’s nearly 6pm now before it’s dark, the daffodils are on their way and the cockerals have started fighting. If you know anyone who would like a cock let me know. (We have 5). Wagner (named after Wagner on the X Factor) is just visible in the picture above.
Anyway, that’s me caught up. It really feels like we have hibernated this winter and in a way, we have! Hope the winter has been kind to you!

I’m really pleased that my ‘Love Ireland’ typographic prints are now for sale on the Garrendenny Lane Interiors web site. Especially as they are in the ‘Made in Ireland’ section.

Smiling Through Recession

My seasonal cards are now available to order on iLoveMayo. Prices start at €1.50. Anyone who knows me, knows that sales/marketing/PR are not my strong points. I’m very excited because I’ve made my first sale to San Francisco in the good old US of A. It seems that my Bah! Humbug recession cards are appropriate there too.
I have a long way to go though. I need to sell thousands of cards to break-even so please help/advise if you can. I need to get the word out and need to get them into some shops if possible. Not so easy in the middle of nowhere and very, very shy!
