Let them eat cake!

August 2nd, 2011 No comments

The Amsterdam Girls have arrived for the summer and I have made a cake to celebrate. Trudi is very happy to see them as they take her to the beach every day… sometimes twice. It’s lovely to have them both here. They are also known as the Fairy Dogmothers.

It’s an orangey/lemony cake. It was not half bad, even if I say so myself. The frosting on top looks lumpy I know. That’s because I have no patience and made the frosting without sifting the icing sugar. Lesson learned.

We’ve had the plastering around the windows done in one of our spare rooms, the shutters are back and my mum very kindly made curtains out of the fabric I bought from Ebay. I love this fabric, it has swallows on it. We have a lot of those around at the moment. It must be summer and the arrival of the swallows that have made me want to nest myself.  I’ve been recovering chairs, making cushions, and sewing ribbons and bead trims onto everything that will stand still long enough. We’ve given the room a fresh coat of paint and are getting ready for the arrival of our Amsterdam girls, Annie & Bertje. They will be over here for approx 7 weeks, and staying in this room for at least 3 of those weeks. It feels like the summer has arrived.

Our wonderful friend and fantastic photographer Profoundly Superficial has a new web site. Al did all the hard techie work and I did the design/logo. The wonderful photographs are all down to the extremely talented Profoundly Superficial though. She’s not just a photographer either, she’s a traveler, translator, cat lover, filmmaker, Polranny Pirate and all round glamour-puss!
Her blog can be found here.

Our Holiday

May 5th, 2009 No comments

We had a wonderful time in France with a group of our old friends from the Evening Standard. Piclist here. We laughed almost constantly. It was so good to see our friends again, the weather was great and we had fantastic surroundings and food. All of the important things in life!

We’re all friends here…

November 8th, 2007 No comments

As Al’s already reported. The friends system is now up and running. It was introduced as a result of the poll we held earlier this year. Now our lists can be ‘public’, ‘private’ or ‘for friends only’. Personally, I only plan to use the ‘for friends only’ option as the exception rather than the rule. Our original Lifelists concept was based on the idea of sharing our enthusiasm for the things we love and really that means doing it publicly. Now that we’ve expanded to cover piclists, todolists and any other kind of list, it’s understandable that there may be some lists that we may want to be totally private or that can only viewed by ‘friends’. I do hope though, that as we are using nicknames and because so many aspects of our profiles are totally private, we all feel protected enough to continue making public lists. As we’ve never had any security issues on the site or any non-friendly behaviour here, I do hope we can all remain ‘friends’ so that we can continue to support each other by messaging or sending me2!s and build new relationships. I think that the most useful function of the ‘friends’ system for me will be the ability to message a group of people all in one go.

Making friends

November 3rd, 2007 No comments

Our friends system has been live for about a week now and it seems to have bedded down nicely. Now you can establish “friendships” with other users and create Lifelists that are only seen by your friends. This applies to any type of Lifelist (except your main Lifelist) so you could create, for example, piclists containing photos of your family or friends safe it the knowledge that you are in control of who can see them. Through the “my friends” tab you can quickly see your friends Lifelists and even send them messages. Talking of piclists, these are the focus of our next development. At the moment we are restricting the size of the photos you can upload to 200KB. I won’t go into the reasons why we set it up this way because they are mostly technical and boring, but we realise that it is a bit of a nuisance in these days of 7MP+ cameras. So we’re rewriting the system to handle much bigger files. Watch this space!

Messaging Launched

January 30th, 2007 No comments

We’ve launched messaging on the site thanks to Al. Now, if there is something we want to say to a Lifelister, we can (except when a Lifelister has opted out of messaging). It’s early days, but it seems to work. Any suggestions welcome.
