Just uploaded the latest updates to mylifelists.com. There are an awful lot of minor detail changes to improve the general operation of the site, but the headline features are the new Trivialists and a change to the way Piclists are created and updated.
Trivialists are, erm, well, lists of trivia. They are fixed lists, designed to provide interesting and/or useful information. We hope that in time they will build up to be a truly massive collection of facts presented in an easily digestible form. Do let us know what you’d like to see included as a Trivialist.
When you upload pictures to a Piclist you now get some visual feedback on the progress of the upload. You can even see exactly how much is being uploaded, how quickly and how much longer it should take. More to the point, at least you now know something is happening and any errors should be reported more clearly.
As always, let us know if you have any comments or suggestions.
Al’s been working on making Piclists better. It should be much easier to upload pictures now. See what you think. As always, feedback is appreciated.

We had a wonderful time in France with a group of our old friends from the Evening Standard. Piclist here. We laughed almost constantly. It was so good to see our friends again, the weather was great and we had fantastic surroundings and food. All of the important things in life!

We’ve added a new list to the ‘Quicklists’ menu. Choosing ’2007 in pictures’ will automatically create a piclist for you to load all of your photos from 2007. You’ll then be able to add captions so that you have a pictorial record of the year that you can look back on.

Al’s made some changes to piclists. The pics now display at a larger size, we’ve increased the maximum upload size (that should make it easier for you Jean!) and clicking on an image will take you to a full size version. I think it’s much better- let me know what you think.

Our friends system has been live for about a week now and it seems to have bedded down nicely. Now you can establish “friendships” with other users and create Lifelists that are only seen by your friends. This applies to any type of Lifelist (except your main Lifelist) so you could create, for example, piclists containing photos of your family or friends safe it the knowledge that you are in control of who can see them. Through the “my friends” tab you can quickly see your friends Lifelists and even send them messages. Talking of piclists, these are the focus of our next development. At the moment we are restricting the size of the photos you can upload to 200KB. I won’t go into the reasons why we set it up this way because they are mostly technical and boring, but we realise that it is a bit of a nuisance in these days of 7MP+ cameras. So we’re rewriting the system to handle much bigger files. Watch this space!
Work has been proceeding very quickly on the roof so far. I’ve created a piclist of the progress. Today however it’s very wet and windy and nothing is happening. For the most part, although we have no tiles, the felt is in position so we’re mostly waterproof. We’ve got quite a lot of rubble in the corridor upstairs and a few holes in the bedroom ceilings. Following the day the tiles were removed from the front of the house, it felt like we were sleeping under the stars except that instead of stars it was 100kph wind, heavy showers and the odd roll of thunder! Still we’re not complaining. It’s great that this winter, the weather will mainly stay outside. Well that’s if we can get the plaster on the front of the house fixed, along with the leaky windows. There will always be something I suppose.

I’m delighted to announce that Piclists are now live! Have a go and let us know what you think of them – any suggestions about functionality, display options or (perish the thought) problems will be gratefully received.
Any moment now (well, today at some point) Al will be updating the site to include Piclists. Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words and now we will be able to gather all the pictures that are important to us in one place. When we are feeling blue I’m sure a quick look at one of our Piclists will give us a lift. I can’t wait to start Piclisting. If you want to prepare yourself, the best way to save your pics is at 360 pixels wide and make sure the files are less than 200K. Jpeg, gif or bmp.
Picture lists (I think we’ll call them piclists) are almost ready. Al has been beavering away on the coding and he’s almost there. They look great. I’m sure they are going to be a really useful addition to the site and a great way to organise all the images that are important to us. I can’t wait to start using them. Also, on a positive note, it’s still blowing a gale outside, but our roof is still there and the heavy rain has stopped. Our satellite TV dish had to be replaced again this week after the storm (it’s the second time in three years)
